My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James is stepping behind the microphone as a special guest DJ on SiriusXM’s Grateful Dead Channel, offering fans a personal look at the music that has inspired him throughout his career.
The two-hour program is part of SiriusXM’s annual “Days Between” programming, a week-long tribute held each year between the anniversaries of Jerry Garcia’s birth on Aug. 1 and his passing on Aug. 9. The event celebrates Garcia’s legacy and the lasting cultural impact of the Grateful Dead through exclusive programming.
During the broadcast, James will curate a selection of his favorite Grateful Dead recordings while sharing stories about the band’s influence on his own musical journey.
Ahead of the broadcast, James invited fans to tune in through a social media post, saying the program would honor the band’s late members while celebrating the “magic, mystery, beauty and wonder” that continues to define the Grateful Dead’s legacy.
The special aired live on Aug. 4 at 4 p.m. ET, with multiple encore broadcasts scheduled throughout the week to coincide with the remainder of the “Days Between” celebration.
James’ appearance also comes as he prepares for a busy stretch of his own career. The musician is set to release “Wowed Out,” his first solo album in eight years, on Aug. 28 via ATO Records. The upcoming project marks his first solo full-length since 2018 and arrives after years focused on My Morning Jacket and other collaborative work.
