A newly restored concert film celebrating George Michael’s landmark Faith Tour is set to arrive in theaters worldwide later this year, with exclusive early-access IMAX screenings planned across the United States.
“George Michael: The Faith Tour” features newly rediscovered footage from the artist’s 1988 performance at the Palais Omnisports de Paris-Bercy in Paris during the European leg of his acclaimed Faith Tour. The film will be distributed internationally by Universal Pictures Content Group, while Crosswalk has secured North American distribution rights.
The film is directed by longtime George Michael collaborators Andy Morahan and David Austin, both of whom have previously worked on projects documenting the late artist’s career. The theatrical presentation will also include an original short film by filmmaker Mary McCartney.
In the United States, Crosswalk will partner with IMAX to offer exclusive advance screenings before the film’s wider theatrical rollout.
Helen Parker, executive vice president of Universal Pictures Content Group, described the performance as capturing George Michael at the height of his creative powers, noting that the restored footage presents the concert in a cinematic format designed to introduce a new generation of fans to his live performances.
The theatrical release will be accompanied by a new live album, “The Faith Tour,” released through George Michael Entertainment and Sony Music Entertainment. The 18-track collection will feature previously unreleased live recordings spanning both George Michael’s solo catalog and his work with Wham!.
