Noah Kahan has earned his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 as “The Great Divide” debuted at the top of the May 9 chart with 389,000 equivalent album units earned in the United States, according to industry data provider Luminate.
The release marks Kahan’s biggest career week and the largest week for a rock album since Billboard began measuring albums by equivalent units in 2014. It also ranks as the third-biggest album week of 2026 across all genres.
Of the album’s opening-week total, 212,000 units came from streaming activity, equal to 215.4 million on-demand streams. Another 175,000 units came from album sales, while track-equivalent sales accounted for the remaining 2,000 units. “The Great Divide” also debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Streaming Albums and Top Album Sales charts.
According to Billboard, the album posted the biggest streaming week of 2026 and the strongest week for a rock album since Dave Matthews Band released “Come Tomorrow” in 2018. Its 175,000 pure album sales also marked the largest sales week for a rock album in nearly seven years, since Tool debuted “Fear Inoculum” in 2019.
Vinyl sales made up a major portion of the album’s launch, with 118,000 copies sold during its first week. Billboard said that total is the biggest vinyl sales week for a rock album since Luminate began electronically tracking music sales in 1991.
“The Great Divide” is Kahan’s fifth album to chart on the Billboard 200 and his second top 10 release. His previous high came with “Stick Season,” which peaked at No. 2 in 2024. The album returned to the top 10 this week, rising from No. 11 to No. 10 in its 179th week on the chart.
Kahan first announced “The Great Divide” on Jan. 28 ahead of its April 24 release. Its title track has now spent 11 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Adult Alternative Airplay chart, the longest run atop the chart in this decade. The song also reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Kahan’s highest-charting single to date.
The album’s opening week sales were boosted by several physical and digital editions, including nine vinyl variants, three CD editions and a deluxe digital version featuring four bonus tracks.
Kahan is set to launch “The Great Divide Tour” on June 11 in Orlando with support from Gigi Perez. After appearing at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival on June 14, he will continue the U.S. leg with additional support Annabelle Dine. Kahan is also scheduled to perform at the Stateside Music Festival on July 4.
According to the artist’s website, every U.S. tour date is currently sold out.
The Australia and New Zealand leg begins Sept. 25 in Melbourne with support from Michael Marcagi. European dates begin Nov. 5 with Bella Kay, before Mon Rovîa takes over as support beginning Nov. 25. Most international dates have also sold out.
