Electronic pop group Empire of the Sun achieved a historic milestone during their recent European and UK concert run, setting an unprecedented record for Australian artists at London’s iconic Alexandra Palace. The Sydney formed musical outfit officially became the first Australian act to completely sell out three separate headline performances at the celebrated British venue.
The record breaking shows occurred on June 24, June 27, and June 28, drawing an aggregate crowd of more than 30,000 attendees. This achievement places the band within an elite circle of global performers who have accomplished the same multi night milestone, including Florence + The Machine, Fred Again…, and Dermot Kennedy. The London events served as a core pillar of their extensive Ask That God: Afterlife tour, organized in support of their July 2024 studio album, Ask That God, which secured their fourth consecutive top ten chart position.
The massive scale of the current global campaign highlights the band’s enduring international market draw, with a planned 51 performances across 18 countries this year alone. Speaking on the evolution of the creative partnership, founding member Nick Littlemore noted that the music emerged naturally when the timing felt right, driven by their deep artistic sensibilities.
The tour next advances through a series of European dates in Ireland, the Netherlands, France, and Luxembourg. Following these dates, founding member Luke Steele will lead the band across the Atlantic to initiate a 31 date North American leg, beginning with a major appearance at Lollapalooza on July 30, followed by highly anticipated performances at iconic locations such as the Hollywood Bowl and Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
