BandLab Technologies is broadening its artificial intelligence ambitions with the acquisition of Aiode, an AI-powered music creation platform built using fully licensed training data.
Announced on July 15, the deal adds a third music production platform to BandLab Technologies’ portfolio, joining the company’s flagship BandLab app and desktop recording software Cakewalk. While BandLab focuses on mobile music creation and Cakewalk serves traditional desktop production, Aiode brings an AI-driven approach to songwriting and recording.
Founded in 2022, Aiode allows users to generate and shape performances using AI models developed in collaboration with professional session musicians and producers. Rather than relying on unlicensed material, the company says every audio file used to train its models is licensed and fully traceable to its source.
The platform enables creators to build tracks from scratch or upload their own recordings before selecting AI models based on individual musicians or performance styles. Users can direct performances section by section, generate alternate takes for specific instruments and export completed projects as individual stems or finished mixes.
The acquisition continues BandLab’s growing investment in AI-powered music tools. The company already offers SongStarter, a generative feature designed to help users create beats, melodies and chord progressions, while also expanding AI licensing options for artists and rights holders in recent years. In 2023, BandLab also entered a strategic AI partnership with Universal Music Group focused on responsible music innovation.
Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. The move follows a string of strategic purchases by BandLab Technologies, including Cakewalk, ReverbNation and Airbit.
