Paramount Pictures and Warner Music Group are joining forces on a new multi-year partnership designed to bring artist-focused stories to movie theaters worldwide.
The agreement establishes a first-look deal between the two entertainment companies to develop feature films inspired by Warner Music’s expansive catalog of artists, songwriters and music history. The collaboration will focus on both scripted and animated projects, with music expected to play a central role in each production.
Although no specific films have been officially announced, the possibilities are extensive. Warner Music Group’s roster includes legendary acts such as David Bowie, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Frank Sinatra, Fleetwood Mac and Eagles. The label’s contemporary lineup also features major global stars, including Dua Lipa, Charli XCX and Coldplay.
According to the announcement, Warner Music Group will work alongside production company Unigram, led by Amanda Ghost and Gregor Cameron, to develop projects directly with artists, songwriters and estates. The companies say the partnership is intended to create more authentic storytelling opportunities while expanding artists’ creative reach beyond music.
Paramount executives Josh Greenstein and Dana Goldberg described the collaboration as an opportunity to build cinematic experiences centered around influential music and culturally significant artists. Meanwhile, Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl said the partnership represents a new approach to music storytelling in film.
The announcement arrives amid continued demand for music biopics and artist-centered films, which have become increasingly successful at the global box office in recent years.
