The pinoy pop genre in the Philippines is making headlines with music groups such as BINI. Starting with K-pop, there has an increase in the number of people listening to artists outside their native tongue.
Midas Promotions’ Andrea Hosking says that. “People just care about the vibe, the style, the songs, and the physical presentation as well. In that sense, people are becoming a little bit more accepting and welcoming of this music.” In fact, there is less focus on lyrics and more mileage on understanding the music.
“When BINI were around Coachella, they were able to speak English,” the business development manager says. “A lot of other Asian countries don’t have this, but almost everyone in the Philippines is fluent in English.”
Because of the pandemic, Philippine music fans became more centered around listening to Filipino music. Despite the limitation of music genres, there is a concentration on P-pop music.
For example, Live Nation is promoting BINI’s Signals World Tour, in which they will be playing across Asia, North America, and Europe later this year.
The group SB19 will be the first Filipino act to perform at Chicago’s Lollapalooza this year.
Through the Internet, the fanbase for both BINI and SB19 will continue to grow with each coming year.
