In early February, Grammy-winning U.S. rock band Foo Fighters began teasing an upcoming album, releasing the title track, “Your Favorite Toy,” on Feb. 19.
The complete 10-song album was released Friday, April 24, making “Your Favorite Toy” the band’s 12th studio album since their first album release in 1995.
In 2022, Foo Fighters longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins tragically passed away. The band released “But Here We Are” in 2023, their first album following Hawkins’ death, recorded with drummer Josh Freese. In September 2025, Ilan Rubin replaced Freese as the band’s drummer, making “Your Favorite Toy” the band’s first album with Rubin.
In finding their way following Hawkin’s passing, “Your Favorite Toy” became an album born out of extensive experimentation. As revealed in a BBC interview, Dave Grohl’s writing process for this album was almost rapid.
“You write something really quickly, and the next day you record it and it’s done,” said Grohl. “That’s the photograph, that’s the one moment that you catch.”
Grohl demoed over 50 songs over the course of weeks before solidifying the final 10 that felt representative of the band’s current sound.
On the weekend of the albums release, from April 24 to April 26, over 200 independent record stores across the U.S. held release/listening parties. At these events, “Your Favorite Toy” was available to customers on CD and vinyl, including an indie store exclusive red vinyl.
While Foo Fighters have not announced tour dates specifically in connection to the album’s release, their “Take Cover” tour will be ongoing throughout 2026. The band will be on their EU and UK leg of the tour throughout June and July, then returning for U.S. and Canada shows in August and September. In November 2026 and January 2027, they’ll be touring in Australia and New Zealand.
“Your Favorite Toy” is available now on all music streaming platforms. On Spotify, the album debuted as the fourth most popular album in the U.S. and fifth globally.
