Singer D4vd, whose legal name is David Anthony Burke, appeared in court Thursday as prosecutors revealed new details in the case surrounding the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
During the hearing, prosecutors stated that a “significant amount” of child pornography was found on Burke’s phone, adding to the growing body of digital and forensic evidence in the case. The proceeding was not a preliminary hearing as originally scheduled, but instead a status conference to organize the large volume of evidence and set future court dates.
According to prosecutors, more than 40 terabytes of discovery materials are being prepared for the defense, a scale that could delay proceedings. A preliminary hearing is currently set for May 1, though it may be postponed depending on whether both sides are ready.
The update comes one day after the release of Celeste Rivas Hernandez’s autopsy report, which ruled her death a homicide caused by multiple penetrating injuries. The report describes a brutal killing, stating that her body was found dismembered and in an advanced state of decomposition months after she was last seen alive in April 2025.
Authorities allege that Burke is responsible for her death and have charged him with first-degree murder, continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and mutilation of human remains. Prosecutors maintain that their case is supported by extensive forensic and digital evidence, though the autopsy report itself does not directly link Burke to the killing.
Burke has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bail. His defense team has stated they intend to challenge the evidence and maintain his innocence.
The case has drawn significant public attention, both due to the severity of the allegations and Burke’s rising profile as a musician. Prosecutors say they will decide at a later date whether to pursue the death penalty.
