Cristian Castro PARS PRODUCCIONES
The Mexican star, who has six No. 1s on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, will be honored and perform his biggest hits on Oct. 22 in Miami.
This year, Cristian Castro went viral for loving the art of doing nothing. On Oct. 22, Billboard honors him for more than 30 years of doing quite a lot.
Billboard announced on Tuesday (Oct. 13) that Castro will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Billboard Latin Music Awards, live from the James L. Knight Center in Miami on Thursday, Oct. 22. He will also take the stage for a performance of his greatest hits. The ceremony airs at 8 p.m. ET on Telemundo and Peacock in the U.S., and on Telemundo Internacional across Latin America and the Caribbean.
Castro, the son of Mexican actress Verónica Castro, first entered Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in 1992 with “No Podrás,” which peaked at No. 3. Since then, he has taken six songs to No. 1 on that chart, including “Nunca Voy a Olvidarte,” “Amor” and “Azul.” His 2010 album Viva el Príncipe spent seven weeks at No. 1 on Top Latin Albums.
That last record makes this award a full-circle moment. Viva el Príncipe was a tribute to José José, “El Príncipe de la Canción,” who is among the past recipients of the same honor, alongside Armando Manzanero, Carlos Santana, Marco Antonio Solís and Roberto Carlos.

Castro called the award “a tremendous honor and a very special moment in my career.” He added that music has given him the privilege of connecting with audiences for more than three decades, and that knowing his songs have become part of people’s lives means more than he can express.
The timing is almost funny. This year, an old interview in which Castro happily describes his laid-back routine resurfaced on TikTok and YouTube and turned into a meme. Streaming service ViX even made it a World Cup campaign, with Castro relaxing and urging viewers to watch the tournament. In August, at Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional, he teased his audience for coming out on a Monday after he had told them not to do anything.
In reality, he’s busy. His Nada Solo Éxitos tour opened Sept. 11 in Las Vegas and runs until March, ending with one show in Orlando and two in Miami.
Castro joins this year’s other special honorees: Rosalía, who will be inducted into the Billboard Hall of Fame, and Rubén Blades, who will receive the Billboard Icon Award. Peso Pluma leads the finalists with 17 nods, followed by Tito Double P with 15 and Fuerza Regida with 12.
Doing nothing has never looked so well-earned.
