In 2026, in an era defined by fleeting TikTok trends and algorithm-driven songs, one truth remains undeniable. People are still deeply in love. And they are still searching for songs that give those feelings a voice. For Guardianes del Amor de Arturo Rodríguez, that has always been the mission. “Here we are still going strong, still working hard,” he says. “Singing love songs because we feel like there will always be people in love, and there will always be a need for a love song to dedicate to your partner. Those romantic, beautiful lyrics. As Guardianes del Amor, the only thing we can do is keep searching for love songs for all the people.”
It is a simple philosophy, but one that has carried him and Guardianes del Amor through more than three decades of music. Because at the heart of it all, beyond trends and formats, beyond industry shifts and changing sounds, there is something that has not changed. The need to feel, and the need to express that feeling through song. Arturo Rodríguez is more than a frontman. For generations of listeners, his voice has been the soundtrack to first loves, heartbreaks, reconciliations, and everything in between. His music is not just heard. It is remembered, tied to moments that define people’s lives. For over 30 years, Guardianes del Amor have remained a constant presence. That kind of longevity is rare in an industry where even the biggest names can fade with time. Their endurance is not accidental. It is emotional. Their songs do not just entertain. They stay. Romantic music has lasted because it speaks to something permanent. Love does not expire. And as long as people continue to fall in love, fall apart, and try again, there will always be a place for Guardianes del Amor and their songs.
Today, songs come and go faster than ever. Some feel like they are made to be consumed and forgotten within weeks, sometimes even days. Very few manage to truly reach into the heart and stay there. Guardianes del Amor have built their career on the opposite idea. “Thank God, we are still living off all the hits we made in the 90s,” Rodríguez says. “I think the music from our time, from the 90s, became classic songs. Those are the songs that still allow us to work every weekend. And of course, I respect the numbers that these new groups are doing today.” There is no resentment in his voice. Only clarity. “What makes romantic music survive is people in love,” he continues. “There are always people with girlfriends, with husbands, with partners. But there will always be a need for love songs.” That belief lives inside his newest release, “100 Abriles,” a song that pushes against the disposable nature of modern music. Indeed, where others chase virality, Rodríguez leans into feeling. Into lyrics that linger. Into melodies that carry memory. For him and Guardianes del Amor, making romantic music is not about capturing attention. It is about capturing something that lasts.
Rodríguez has performed on massive stages across Mexico, South America, and Central America, where thousands of fans gather and sing along. But in recent years, there has also been a return to something smaller. More intimate. “We are performing everywhere and a lot of people come see us,” he explains. “We keep working every weekend. In Mexico, in South America, in Central America, those are bigger stages. In the U.S., it is more intimate.” In those smaller venues, the connection changes. You can see it in the way fans lock eyes with him. You can feel it in the closeness, in the immediacy of every lyric. The performance becomes less about spectacle and more about presence.
At the same time, Rodríguez is embracing a new creative chapter for Guardianes. “Right now we are promoting a new album,” he says. “We released ‘100 Abriles’ with El Yaki. To make it more modern, we added strings, his voice, which is very powerful and iconic in the regional Mexican music scene. It gave the song a different touch.” He points to other recent collaborations, like ‘El Perro, El Gato y Yo’ with Los Askis, where Andean elements blend with romantic cumbia. “We mixed the two styles, and it came out really beautiful,” he says. “We also have several duets coming out every month. I think people are really going to love it because it sounds like Guardianes from the 90s, but with a more modern touch.” For Guardianes and Rodríguez, it is not about leaving the past behind. It is about bringing it forward.
For all his success, Rodríguez and Guardianes del Amor have never lost sight of who their music is for. Not the industry. Not the charts. But the everyday person, for the one living through love, heartbreak, sacrifice, and hope. His music continues to reflect real life. It evolves, but it never disconnects. That is why it still resonates. “Even though the music now is more retro and many groups are going back to the 90s sound, I think this new album is coming at the perfect time,” he explains. “It has our base sound, but with new artists collaborating with us. That makes it sound more modern.”
Just like in a good love story, behind every long-lasting career is sacrifice. Behind every group is a story of discipline and change. “We were together for 22 years, but it was like a marriage that no longer works,” Rodríguez says honestly. Starting over was not a break from his past. For Guardianes and Rodríguez, it was a necessary step forward. “When I went on my own, I recorded the classic ‘Musica Romantica, ’ where I brought together all the grupero artists from the 90s,” he says. “It worked really well. It was something I needed at that moment. I wanted to sing with all my friends, and they all said yes.” At the same time, he opened himself to new perspectives. “I have learned to listen to people from the outside,” he says. “As a group, everyone had their own ideas. Now, as Guardianes del Amor de Arturo Rodríguez, what I did worked, but I am always looking for people with fresh sound. People who know what is working right now.”
That openness has fueled this new chapter. “Thanks to God, a label became interested and brought me new ideas about what kind of music to record and how to promote it,” he says. “Listening to new ideas has helped me a lot, and we are having a lot of success.” This renaissance was not given to him. It was earned. At the center of this new era is balance. Growth without losing identity. Evolution without abandoning emotion. “In this new album, we went back to the base of Guardianes del Amor,” Rodríguez says. “That gave it a retro feel, but at the same time, something new. With this new album, we hope the new generation can listen and enjoy the sound that their parents did.” With guest artists and new instrumentation, the sound feels layered and refreshed. “There are a lot of interesting things in this album,” he says. “All the romance that it carries. I think people will be able to take these songs and once again, have something to dedicate to their partners. Something truly romantic that can help them fall in love.”
And in the end, his philosophy remains simple. “The key is always to find a love song that says the same thing, but in a different way.” Because no matter how much the industry changes, no matter how fast music moves, one thing remains constant. Love never left. And neither did Guardianes del Amor de Arturo Rodríguez and their music that gives love a voice.
