This past weekend, Miami’s Adrienne Arsht Center pulsed with rhythm and emotion as Siudy Garrido marked 25 years of creative work with ALIVE. The evening mixed classical flamenco and modern influences. It honored memory, community, and artistic growth.
Opening Sequence
The show opened with a short film directed by Pablo Croce that traced Garrido’s career. Then the company launched into a striking Seguirilla danced with chairs. Next, George Akram, Natalia Novela, Analí Alcántara, and Garrido performed “La Danza del Terror” from El Amor Brujo. At the program’s center, the company paid tribute to maestro José Luis de la Paz. José Manuel Álvarez choreographed a Trilla for 22 dancers, and Garrido danced a Guajira she had shared with the maestro for 12 years. Moreover, Daniela Rosi led the ballet in a lively Alegrías while the full band played live.

In the second act, the company shifted toward contemporary work with fresh music by Juan Parrilla and Manuel Fernández. Siudy delivered two standout solos. First, her Taranto fused urban and Latin elements and electrified the audience. Then, her Caña–Soleá closed the show with intense drama and earned a standing ovation. In addition, José Manuel Álvarez returned for a powerful Soleá por Bulería and a duet drawn from Falla’s score. Finally, a surprise flashmob of Siudy Flamenco community members filled the aisles and turned the theater into a joyous celebration.
Audience Response
Visibly moved, Garrido thanked the audience and her close circle. She said she felt “happy and deeply grateful to celebrate these 25 years before such a special audience.” She also noted how her mother and the family of José Luis de la Paz made the night more personal and meaningful. After a sold-out run at Lincoln Center, Garrido now heads to Madrid to present BAILAORA at The Music Station on November 17.
Overall, ALIVE proved a vivid statement of Garrido’s craft and leadership. Ultimately, the show balanced tradition and innovation, and it confirmed her role as a leading voice in flamenco today.
