Spotify Reaches 300 Million Paying Subscribers

Spotify has crossed a major milestone, ending the second quarter of 2026 with 300 million Premium subscribers worldwide.

The streaming company added 7 million paying customers during the three-month period, surpassing its own forecast. Across both its subscription and advertising-supported tiers, Spotify counted 777 million monthly active users at the end of June, just below its projection of 778 million.

The company also reported strong financial results. Quarterly revenue reached 4.78 billion, representing a 14% increase from the same period last year. Operating profit climbed to 655 million, while gross margin reached a record 33.4%. Spotify also swung to a net profit of 545 million, compared with a loss of €86 million in the year-ago quarter.

Subscriptions remained the engine of growth. Premium revenue rose 15% to 4.33 billion, while advertising revenue increased only slightly, reaching €446 million. Spotify attributed the stronger margins largely to subscription growth, with revenue expanding faster than several of the costs associated with music, audiobooks and video podcasts.

The company expects that momentum to continue. For the third quarter, Spotify is forecasting 5 billion in revenue and another 5 million Premium subscribers, bringing its projected paying audience to 305 million. Monthly active users are expected to reach 788 million.

Spotify highlighted several new products introduced during the quarter. Its Reserved feature in the U.S. gives an artist’s biggest supporters opportunities to access concert tickets ahead of wider sales. The platform has also introduced Personal Podcasts, which uses artificial intelligence to create customized audio episodes for individual listeners.

Spotify is additionally preparing a fan-focused covers and remixing feature. Through an agreement with Merlin, artists represented by participating Merlin labels will have the opportunity to take part.

With 300 million paying customers and nearly 800 million monthly users, Spotify is entering the second half of 2026 from a position of considerable scale.
