Spotify has created the “Verified by Spotify” badge to help listeners distinguish among authentic human artists. In order to receive the badge, artists must meet certain criteria. Spotify includes on artist profiles artist presence both on and off platform such as concert dates, merch, and linked social accounts. Profiles that represent AI-generated music or AI-persona artists are not eligible for verification. Spotify is focusing on using artist profiles that people seek out over a sustained period of time rather than those who are temporarily engaged. With a mix of different genres, career stages, and regions, more than 99% of artists will actively search to be verified. Users will start to see how new badges will fit on artist profiles and how they will show up in search results using artist names. Specifically, the badges will show “Verified by Spotify” text with a green checkmark.
The goal of the usage of badges is to mae it easier to trust and understand the human artistry of music you listen to on Spotify in order to develop long-term, meaningful connections with artists and the music you love.
There is also the launching of a new profile section in beta with all artist profiles highlighting career milestones, release activity, and touring activity. Though this section will give users a quick way to look into an artist’s authentic activity, this will occur even if the criteria for vertification is not yet.
In beta testing, Spotify has created an “Artist Profile Protection” feature that allows artists to review releases before profiles on published.
Spotify has launched the requested removal of more than 135,000 AI-generated songs impersonating artists on streaming services. It has been announced that the AI-generated tracks now include 44% of all new music uploaded to its platform.
