There has been a movement where the music group BTS has had a comeback for fans in Seoul and the New York City partnering with Spotify. Spotify has helped BTS launch a global promotional intiative with the song, “What is your Love Song?” in additon to Spotify’s silent tracks: Self-Love, Fandom Love, Romantic Love, Healing Love, Unrequited Love, and Nostalgic Love. Recently, fans were given the opportunity to vote for one of the six categories, and “Self Love” won the poll. With the release of BTS’s album ARIRANG on March 20, it has become one of Spotify’s most streamed albums.
RM from BTS states that the whole experience is surreal to him, that he can’t believe that BTS as grown exponentially thorugh the years that he is grateful for all that has happened.
HYBE / BIGHIT has worked closely with Spotify to create BTS’s identity. In the BTS: The Return documentary, it is apparent that it has taken BTS a lot of time for the comeback.
What defines BTS is that they create authentic music bringing its seven members closer together.
There has been a phenomenon of more support for Korean artists and songwriters, giving them support to thrive in today’s market. In fact, just last year, Spotify launched in Seoul music from South Korean artists creating three days full of performations showing Spotify’s many features.
The Spotify x BTS SWIMSIDE campaign in celebration of the lead track in the album “SWIM” has focused on the theme of the ocean with a performance at Pier 17 in New York City and also a boat ride down the Han River Seoul listening to BTS music.
The New York City Spotify event brought people together with three songs from the ARIRANG album: “SWIM,” “2.0,” and “NORMAL”.
Before the Spotify performance however, the group had teamed up with Netflix to perform BTS THE COMEBACK LIVE ARIRANG concert in Seoul. The group had a comeback after being reunited during the mandatory military service in South Korea. Prior to the reunion, each member of BTS had a chance to pursue their solo careers. Doing so allowed them to reunite even stronger because each of them brought a sense of owning their identity.
Futhermore, Spotify has allowed fans to connect with BTS by using BTS playlists and opportunties for exclusive content, giving fans a chance to connect with them.
BTS is grateful for its fans seeking the connection between their music and fans and is excited for their audience to engage with their music. BTS started their world tour in Goyang, South Korea will three days of concerts and are heading to Tokyo, Japan before going to Europe and North America.
