Sony Music Group has promoted Ezekiel Lewis to Chairman and CEO of Epic Records, marking a significant in-house promotion as the label continues to grow.
Lewis, who joined Epic in 2018, most recently served as President after leading the label’s A&R division. In his new role, he will oversee both the creative direction and business operations of the company, reporting directly to Rob Stringer.
The appointment reflects Sony’s emphasis on developing leadership from within its ranks. Stringer pointed to Lewis’ deep creative experience and longstanding presence at Epic as key factors in the decision, highlighting the executive’s strong relationships with both artists and internal teams.
A Grammy-winning songwriter and producer, Lewis has played a central role in shaping the careers of a wide range of artists across genres, including 21 Savage, GIVĒON, Travis Scott and Meghan Trainor. His track record spans both creative instinct and commercial success.
Before joining Epic, Lewis held a senior A&R role at Motown Records, where he worked with acts such as Ne-Yo and Migos. His earlier career includes hitmaking credits alongside major names like Usher and Justin Bieber, as well as leadership roles through his own ventures, including Bar Music Group and the songwriter-producer collective The Clutch.
Lewis emphasized a renewed focus on artist-first development, positioning Epic as a creative home in an increasingly crowded, digital-first industry. His appointment follows the departure of Sylvia Rhone, who previously led the label through a period of transformation and growth.
With a background rooted in songwriting and A&R, Lewis now steps into one of the industry’s most influential executive roles.
