A new sound is carving a path through the indie rock landscape, a sound both intensely familiar and strikingly fresh. It belongs to Modern Alibi, a four-piece outfit that has swiftly moved from local stages to sold-out hometown shows and major festival appearances, including the Lovin’ Life Festival and Charlotte Pride Festival. Formed by frontman Holden Scott, the band, featuring bassist Josh, drummer Christian, and lead guitarist Carter, has earned the coveted title of “Best New Band in Charlotte,” but their sights are set far beyond the Queen City. When Scott began the band, his initial goal was to simply “play a song I have written in front of anybody who would listen,” but he quickly realized that the energy was just as important as the songwriting. He found a lineup that shared that vision, describing his bandmates as “extremely talented musicians who make our songs sound electric on stage with their own personal touch.”For Modern Alibi, the live show is a sacred, visceral experience. Scott recounts how the energy from the crowd directly fuels their music. “When the shows in our hometown started to grow…the live interactions I was having on stage with the crowd strongly influenced the way I wrote music,” he explains. That feedback loop has created a band whose ethos is rooted in pure, unbridled energy. “Our motto is to never hold back. No matter where we play and for how many people, we lose our minds on stage until we feel it the next morning.” It’s a sentiment that resonates with their growing fan base, some of whom have traveled from as far as New Jersey and Florida just to sing along to the lyrics louder than Scott himself. “Nothing is better than a crowd singing my lyrics louder than me,” he says, a genuine smile in his voice. This connection is further solidified by a fan-created Discord community where they share artwork and talk about the band, proving their dedication goes far beyond the music.
