Idris Elba is best known as an acclaimed actor, but his latest move highlights his growing impact in music. He has extended his exclusive global publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG). The deal reinforces his evolution from screen icon to respected songwriter, DJ, and label founder.

Breakthrough Hits & Collaborations
Elba’s music career gained momentum with his 2022 single Boasty featuring Wiley, Stefflon Don, and Sean Paul. The track topped the UK Indie Chart and has surpassed 180 million streams. Since then, he has worked with artists across genres, including Vroom with The FaNaTiX, Lil TJay, Davido, Koffee, and Moelego. He also released a collaborative EP with Australian band Lime Cordiale and partnered with dance labels like Defected, Dirtybird, and Ultra.
Beyond collaborations, Elba has built his own platforms. His labels 7Wallace and Sound International showcase diverse sounds and global stories. Sound International, launched in late 2024, has already hosted showcases at ADE, SXSW London, Glastonbury, Nairobi, and Accra. These projects show his commitment to shaping music culture, not just performing within it.
Taking Over Global Stages
His live shows add to his credibility. In 2025, Elba played back-to-back with Kaskade at Coachella, delivered four DJ sets at Glastonbury, and dominated Ibiza’s summer season with shows at Ushuaïa, Pacha, and other iconic venues. He will also headline the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December after performing earlier at Silverstone. UMPG’s Pete Simmons summed it up: “People might think Idris is an actor who sometimes makes music, but in reality, he’s a songwriter who sometimes acts.”
Elba’s renewed deal with UMPG is more than a contract extension. It signals his intent to expand his catalog, grow his labels, and continue performing on global stages. His music career is no side project—it’s a central part of his creative identity. Fans and industry watchers can expect his next chapter to be as dynamic as the man himself.
