Warner Music India steps into a new venture with Indian music label Ultra Music India. As part of what the deal stipulates, Warner Music India will take over the distribution of Ultra Music’s catalog of over 14,000 tracks, the WMG Division announced on Tuesday, November 25th.
The partnership will cover Ultra Music’s existing library, which spans “Bollywood” film soundtracks, including folk, devotional, and regional music. Warner Music is also set to handle distribution of all new releases from Ultra Music during the contract period.
Ultra Music is a division of Ultra Media, which focuses on music syndication and acquisition of old and new songs spanning genres and languages. The label also collects music rights from various feature films and many other platforms before distributing content to streaming services such as JioSaavn, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Gaana, and Youtube Music to name a few.
Sushilkumar Agrawal of Ultra Music shares, “Our collaboration with Warner Music India marks a meaningful step in strengthening Ultra Music’s distribution and reach. It allows us to combine Warner Music’s strong industry network with our deep catalog to deliver quality Indian music to audiences across platforms.”
The Managing Director of Warner Music India and SAARC, Jay Mehta, adds, “Ultra Music has one of the Indian music industry’s most significant catalogs covering a vast array of genres. This exclusive partnership enables us to take Ultra’s iconic repertoire and upcoming releases to a wider global audience. We’re excited to showcase its Bollywood tracks, which in turn strengthens our own Bollywood offering, as well as its Hindi and regional repertoire, bringing timeless classics and fresh Indian music to listeners worldwide.”
Warner Music India is set to continue expanding its place in the market after launching operations in 2020. Domestic artists are now included in the roster, such as Diljit Dosanjh, King, Sanjith Hegde, Karma, and Darshan Raval.
