Australian alt-pop powerhouse Amy Shark has officially broken her two-year hiatus with the announcement of her fourth studio album, soft pop. Scheduled for release on Friday, July 31st, 2026, the project marks a radical return to Shark’s roots, featuring no co-writes or outside collaborations—a first since her early career.
The Isolation Sessions
The creative process for soft pop began in total solitude, with Shark writing the entire record alone in her apartment over the course of a month. To capture the raw, visceral energy of these demos, she traveled to a converted church in Wales to record with long-time producer Dann Hume. In a bold stylistic departure, the album reportedly features no drums, focusing instead on Shark’s voice and guitar-heavy arrangements.
“I’m so proud of soft pop and so excited to share this world with my fans,” Shark says. “The process of bringing it to life has been challenging, full of joy and honestly life changing. I hope you find something beautiful, relatable and deeply human in every drop.”
The Lead Single: “The Biggest Dick”
Coinciding with the album news is the release of the lead single, “The Biggest Dick.” Described by Shark as the “ultimate break-up anthem,” the track balances vulnerability with a scathing “F U” to a former flame. The accompanying music video, featuring Shark cycling through her hometown of the Gold Coast, visualizes the song’s theme of celebrating “little wins” like coffee and blue skies during emotional lows.
Vinyl and Deluxe Exclusives
Shark is leaning heavily into the physical experience for this release with three distinct vinyl variants:
- Hot Pink: Available at all retail outlets.
- Yellow: A JB Hi-Fi exclusive (Australia only).
- Hand Poured (Red/Blue/Green): Available only through the Amy Shark official store.
- The “Soft” Edition: A limited deluxe CD and vinyl version featuring a custom blue fur slipcase, a tactile nod to the album’s title.
Beyond the Booth
2026 is shaping up to be a crossover year for Shark. Alongside the new music, she is set to make her feature-film acting debut in the gritty drama Beast. Starring alongside Russell Crowe, Luke Hemsworth, and Daniel MacPherson, Shark will hit Australian cinema screens on April 23rd.
