Meeting Demand
After TikTok’s European userbase grew to 200 million people, the platform expands its music creator program SoundOn to Germany, a country which hosts a respectable 25 million users and is the world’s fourth largest music market. The SoundOn service itself has become home to 1 million registered artists worldwide since its 2022 launch.

Easier Distribution
SoundOn’s expansion will allow registered local German artists to easily distribute their songs across streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, Soundcloud, and more, with functions to upload their music straight to TikTok also included. According to Spotify, “hundreds of thousands” of users generate revenue on the platform. “By combining global distribution with the unique promotional opportunities available on TikTok, SoundOn enables artists to build sustainable careers and reach audiences at scale,” said Nichal Sethi, the Head of SoundOn EMEA. “We’ve had global successes already with our artists in Germany – the likes of WizTheMc and Ely Oaks – and can’t wait to break the next independent artist there.”

SoundOn’s Success Stories
Austrian DJ Ely Oaks saw his song “Borderline” go viral on TikTok and reach 17th place on German charts. He uses SoundOn to “get feedback directly from the community.” He continued, “SoundOn gives me the freedom to set trends and share my sound without compromise. If you’re honest and just do what you feel, the community grows on its own and celebrates you for who you truly are.”

Meanwhile, South African-German musician WizTheMc’s remix of Tyla’s “Show Me Love” peaked at 3rd place on German and British charts, attributing some of the success that has propelled him to millions of monthly listeners to SoundOn. “The fact that ‘Show Me Love’ is now triggering such a global moment via SoundOn feels absolutely crazy — but also like the loudest confirmation that music knows no boundaries,” he said. “I always wanted to make music that feels at home everywhere. I’m now in the charts from Berlin to Johannesburg and in the US with millions of listeners. This shows me that anything is possible if you believe in your vision.”
