Latin America keeps shaping global music, and Spotify is turning up the volume. Spotify Sessions is a new video project that spotlights the region’s artists with five-track video EPs. Each session pairs an artist with a music director and a visual director to create a unified creative statement, and together they reimagine songs as integrated audio-visual experiences.
Artist Control & Creative Freedom
The Sessions give artists full control. For example, teams pick arrangements, visual concepts, and performance spaces. Some recordings happen on stage; meanwhile, others take place in unexpected locations. As a result, artists present songs that reflect their creative worlds. Moreover, the format encourages experimentation, so artists can test new genres, instruments, and visual approaches without constraints.
The first releases show the project’s range and ambition. In Colombia, rapper and producer Crudo Means Raw teamed with Adan Naranjo and George Gallardo to perform “X-Tra.” He says the song urges listeners to nurture their spiritual and physical health, and he chose the track to bring a raw, organic message to light. In Brazil, sertanejo singer Ana Castela worked with Douglas Moda, Lucas Vaz, and Edvaldo Raw to remake five songs in different genres. Consequently, her set highlights both versatility and the broad appeal of Brazilian music. Furthermore, she sees the Sessions as a way to represent sertanejo and bring Brazilian songs to new countries.
Expansion and Access
Spotify is expanding video to deepen artist-fan connections. Specifically, Premium listeners outside the US can watch Sessions, and Free listeners in Brazil and Colombia also get access. Additionally, Spotify confirmed upcoming Sessions from RØZ in Mexico, KayBlack with Burna Boy in Brazil, and Peces Raros in Argentina. Together, these additions will broaden the project’s stylistic range and cultural scope. Therefore, international audiences will discover more regional voices. Mia Nygren, Spotify’s General Manager for Latin America, adds that video gives users a bigger way to discover music and lets artists truly express themselves.
In short, Spotify Sessions blends sound and vision to celebrate Latin American creativity. Ultimately, the format empowers artists, highlights cultural diversity, and invites fans to experience music more fully. Moving forward, expect more releases that push boundaries, foster collaboration, and support the next generation of Latin stars.
