Specifications and Compatibility
The new feature, referred to as “Lossless” rather than the rumored “Spotify HiFi,” will include support for streams up to 24-bit/44.1kHz in FLAC quality. This places the audio quality above standard CD quality and enters into the hi-res audio range.

The lossless feature will also work with Spotify Connect, allowing for high-quality streaming to compatible audio-video devices. Launch partners like Sony and Denon will support the feature from the start, with additional brands like Sonos to be added in the coming months.
An Anticipated Upgrade for Long-Time Users
For years, rival streaming services such as Tidal have offered lossless and hi-res audio, leaving many audio enthusiasts on Spotify with standard 320kbps streams. This new upgrade is a welcome relief for long-term users, particularly those with Family Accounts, who have found it difficult to switch services despite their desire for higher quality audio.
With the new update, Spotify is not only meeting a key demand from its user base but also rewarding the loyalty of subscribers by providing a significant audio improvement at no additional cost. The upgrade ensures that everyone on a Premium plan will benefit from a higher-quality listening experience, even if they aren’t aware of the technical details.
