Grammy Week 2026 is kicking off with a powerful celebration of Black music excellence. On January 29, the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective will host its fourth annual honors ceremony at the Fairmont Century Plaza. This star-studded event shines a light on the massive cultural impact and career achievements of three legendary figures: Pharrell Williams, Brandy, and Kirk Franklin.
Pharrell Williams will receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award, an honor that recognizes his work as a 13-time Grammy winner and his creative leadership at Louis Vuitton. Beyond his hits, the award highlights his dedication to philanthropy through groups like Black Ambition, which supports diverse entrepreneurs. Joining him are Brandy and Kirk Franklin, who will both receive the Black Music Icon Award. Known as the Vocal Bible, Brandy has influenced decades of R&B and pop. Kirk Franklin has spent over thirty years blending gospel with hip-hop and pop, making him a true pioneer who has changed the sound of contemporary worship.
This ceremony is about more than just trophies; it is a vital part of the Black Music Collective’s mission to support the next generation of talent. Last year, the group provided over 85,000 dollars in scholarships to HBCU students and music programs. This year’s event also serves as a long-awaited moment for Kirk Franklin, who was originally scheduled to be honored in 2025 before Grammy Week programming was condensed due to local emergencies. By celebrating these visionaries, the Recording Academy ensures that the history of Black music is preserved while the future is funded.
As we look forward to music’s biggest night, the Recording Academy Honors serves as a reminder of the global influence of Black artistry. By honoring Pharrell, Brandy, and Kirk, the industry acknowledges the innovation and vulnerability that continue to move audiences worldwide. It is a night of community and legacy that sets the perfect tone for the 68th Grammy Awards.
