Rest in Power
Latin Grammy-nominated artists Mon Laferte and Nathy Peluso released a powerful co-written bolero single “La Tirana” (“The Tyrant”) to pay tribute to the genre’s iconic Cuban artist La Lupe. The song also released with an old-timey, irreverent music video.
Attention to Detail
The song serves as a teaser for Mon Laferte’s upcoming album “Femme Fatale,” and features a live orchestra arrangement of strings, brass, and classical percussion, just as any classically recorded bolero of La Lupe’s time would have been. The old-timey aesthetic of the single’s visuals and sound take inspiration from vaudeville, “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes,” and “Cabaret” (which the Chilean singer recently starred in a sold-out Mexico City production of).
Vulnerability and Strength
On the track, the duo expresses the loneliness and stigma that they face for being perceived as intimidating women due to their strength and irreverence, noted by both fans and critics alike, not unlike the Cuban singer they pay tribute to. The song also deals with the surfacing of emotions and fragility during romantic relationships, and offers a space for them to relate to each other. The collaboration may come as no surprise to either artist’s fans, who have seen the single coming from a mile away since the pair shared a picture in an elevator nearly a year ago.

Available Now
