Culver City, California (July 11, 2025)- Mentiras: La Serie is no longer just a nostalgic nod to the iconic Mexican musical—it’s a full-blown cultural phenomenon. On Thursday, July 10, part of the cast gathered at the Culver City Theater in Los Angeles to celebrate the show’s skyrocketing success, including lead stars Belinda and Luis Gerardo Méndez.
The Prime Video original has quickly climbed to the top of streaming charts on platforms like Spotify and iTunes, fueled by a wave of fan engagement that spans generations. The show’s popularity has even crossed over into cinemas, with select episodes screening at Cinemex theaters across Mexico.
The Los Angeles premiere was backed by Warner executives and featured a surprise appearance from one of Latin America’s most beloved voices: Amanda Miguel. The ‘80s icon praised Belinda for her dual talents as an actress and singer, expressing admiration for the young star’s potential. Her heartfelt words brought Belinda to tears—a poignant moment that underscored the series’ emotional reach across eras.
“I’m so moved to see the impact this show is having,” Amanda said while hugging Belinda during the Q&A and also stated “Belinda is not only honoring the legacy of this music—she’s giving it new life.”
Belinda and Méndez were honored with plaques commemorating over 100 million combined streams of musical numbers such as “Soldado del Amor,” “De Color de Rosa,” and “Secretaria.”
Attendees were treated to an exclusive screening of the first two episodes, followed by a Q&A session moderated by the president of NALIP and moderator Diana Luna. When asked about the show’s global reception, Belinda noted the joy of seeing TikTok videos featuring entire families—mothers and children—recreating scenes and dances from the show.
The cast was asked during the Q&A about the process of adapting a current and beloved play to the screen? “This wasn’t just about making a series. It’s about seeing generations connect through music and storytelling,” Belinda responded.
Actor Luis Gerardo Méndez used the moment to speak to larger societal themes. Acknowledging the current climate surrounding immigration in the U.S., particularly in Los Angeles, he said the purpose of Mentiras is to bring joy and unity into homes during trying times.
One of Diana Luna’s Questions during the Q&A was if they imagine the impact the show would have? “We knew it would resonate,” Méndez said. “But we never imagined how deeply it would be embraced.”
With a blend of nostalgia, bold performances, and emotional storytelling, Mentiras: La Serie has struck a rare chord—bridging the gap between generations while solidifying its place in Latin pop culture.
