Los Angeles, California (July 14, 2025)- The beauty, richness, and grandeur of Mexican music will once again light up Los Angeles as legendary mariachi figures come together for a breathtaking celebration of tradition and talent. “Leyendas del Mariachi,” a one-night-only spectacular, brings to the Ford Theatre the most renowned mariachi performers of the last three decades. These artists, considered icons and mentors in their genre, have helped define and elevate mariachi music on stages around the world. Their careers span the most prestigious mariachi ensembles including Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán, Mariachi Los Camperos, Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, Mariachi América de Jesús Rodríguez de Híjar, and Mariachi Cobre, to name just a few.
Produced by Susie García of Colibrí Entertainment, the same visionary behind the acclaimed ¡Viva la Tradición! series, this concert aims to uplift and unite the Hispanic community through an extraordinary musical experience. “It is time to reaffirm our commitment to those who love our culture, our music, and the power of unity within our Hispanic people,” García shared. Co-producer and artist Pepe Martínez Jr. emphasized that this night will be a powerful tribute to the enduring love for mariachi music, touching the hearts of audiences from all backgrounds.
The concert will showcase timeless classics that have marked generations — from “Las Mañanitas” to “El Rey” — and highlight the virtuosity of performers whose careers are deeply woven into the fabric of Mexican musical history. Among the featured legends is Pepe Martínez Jr., a seasoned musician who spent over two decades with Mariachi Vargas de Tecalitlán and now leads Mariachi Ángeles in Los Angeles, continuing his father’s legacy. Also performing is Ismael Hernández, with over 25 years of experience including a significant tenure with Mariachi Los Camperos and now leading Mariachi Tierra Querida.
Julio Martínez, an accomplished harpist who began recording at age 12, has traveled the world with Mariachi Vargas and now plays with Mariachi México de Pepe Villa. Trumpet virtuoso Eloy Pérez brings a prestigious resume that includes collaborations with Miguel Martínez and performances with Mariachi Vargas, while Steve Carrillo, co-founder of Mariachi Cobre, celebrates over 50 years as musical director and a long-standing presence at Disney’s Epcot in Florida.
Violinist Juan Rodríguez, with roots in Zacatecas and a long career with Mariachi Los Camperos, has accompanied legendary singers like Lola Beltrán and Juan Gabriel. Germán López, a vihuelist from Jalisco, and Fernando Hernández, whose extensive experience includes performing on “Siempre en Domingo,” are both masterful contributors to the genre. Rafael Palomar, former director and singer of Mariachi Vargas, will be honored during the evening for his pivotal role in shaping mariachi music and mentoring countless younger musicians.
Other celebrated performers include Javier Rodríguez, a classically trained violinist who has collaborated with top orchestras and artists such as Luis Miguel and Alejandro Fernández. Francisco “Paco” Aguilar, known for his work with Rocío Dúrcal and Vicente Fernández, and José Moyces Vargas Basulto, a 20-year veteran of Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán, also form part of the remarkable lineup.
Adding visual beauty to the night is the Ballet Folklórico Ollín, founded in 1972 and known for its breathtaking dance interpretations of Mexican culture. Under the direction of Virginia Diediker, the company has performed alongside greats like Linda Ronstadt, Lola Beltrán, and Mariachi Vargas, preserving tradition through graceful movement and powerful storytelling.
