Paloma Morphy has cemented her successful career pivot, winning the coveted Best New Artist award at the 2025 Latin Grammys. She also received recognition as Billboard’s Latin Artist on the Rise for November.
Hailing from Mexico City, Morphy discovered her passion for music at a young age but initially deemed a music career non-viable. She pursued a career in law instead.
“I feel like the new girl in the classroom,” Morphy told Billboard during Latin Grammys week. She noted that she was happily surprised to find the atmosphere was not “full of competition,” realizing “we’re all in the same boat.”
The Dramatic Pivot
Feeling unmotivated and sad, Morphy decided to quit her job as a criminal lawyer and dedicate two years to pursuing her childhood dream. She reflected, “There’s a reason I endured five years of that incredibly boring career, but yes, it gives me a different perspective.”
Her debut single, “La Idiota Soy Yo,” officially launched her into the music realm in 2022.
Law Career as Creative Catalyst
Morphy believes her time as a lawyer now fuels her deep songwriting. She admits that all her songs are based on that experience, confirming she can only write about things she feels deeply about.
The singer’s writing often incorporates social commentary, such as her song, “la mexicana.” She wrote this track after seeing how many reports of gender-based violence never reached the investigation stage. Morphy stated the song is “truly my way of raising my voice” and reflecting on how to make a difference in her country.

Major Milestones
The career shift quickly paid off. Morphy was a two-time nominee at the Latin Grammys and ultimately won the 2025 Best New Artist trophy.
She released her debut studio album, Au, under Sony Music México this year. The album has been highly successful, garnering over 28 million streams on Spotify since its release in March.
What’s Next
Morphy has already lined up her next steps. A new collaboration with Neto Péña and Robot95 is set for release shortly.
She is also working on new music that will lead up to her sophomore studio album, which is scheduled for release in 2026.
