Los Angeles, California (July 29, 2025)- In a landmark year for their international expansion, and fresh off the heels of announcing their participation in the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Week 2025, Grupo 5 has released a powerful tribute to a legendary force in Peruvian music. The group today unveils “Mix Shapis,” a vibrant homage to Los Shapis, the pioneers of the Andean chicha movement.
The new track is a dynamic fusion of cumbia and chicha, weaving together three of Los Shapis’ most iconic songs: “El aguajal,” “La novia,” and “Ladrón de amor.” This special production was led by Christian and Elmer Yaipén of Grupo 5, who blended the original arrangements of Los Shapis with the creative direction of renowned producer Andrés De Colbert. The result is a seamless piece that honors the genre’s roots while filtering it through a contemporary lens.
“Mix Shapis” made its highly anticipated live debut during a historic performance at the Movistar Arena in Santiago, Chile, where more than 16,000 fans celebrated the tribute with overwhelming enthusiasm. This momentous performance was captured in a cinematic-style video by Tierra Brava, which is now available on YouTube and has rapidly become a trending release.
“For us, Los Shapis has always been an iconic group in chicha music, and they deserve all our respect and admiration,” said Christian Yaipén, the lead vocalist of Grupo 5. “That’s why we wanted to honor them through this mix that blends cumbia and chicha—something that was very well received when we premiered it live in Chile and is now trending on YouTube.”
As the video continues to gain global attention, Grupo 5 is currently on tour across northern Peru, with scheduled stops in Trujillo, Cajamarca, Lambayeque, and Celendín. Following this leg, the group will continue its international schedule with upcoming shows in the United States and Ecuador, bringing their celebrated sound to an even wider audience.
