Happy Independence Day
On September 15, singer Edith Encalada will release a fresh take on an old classic, asking the question: can we make the Mexican ’50s classic “Cucurrucucú Paloma” into a modern pop song? The answer, as it turns out, is yes.
Blending Old and New
Encalada believes that with the new version, she can celebrate her country’s Independence Day and pay respects to the musical roots of her culture while reinventing and reintroducing it to younger generations with a Latin pop twist. Her style tends to include fusions of old classics with new pop sounds. “I wanted to respect the essence of the song, but also show my own voice, my identity, and my time,” said the Mexican artist.

Attention to Detail
The instrumental in the song, arranged by Francisco Guzmán, still contain classical elements from the song’s original release, but have a pop fusion that shines through in the production and in Encalada’s vocals. The song was produced in the studio Gotika in Cancún Quintana Roo, and on the cover art for the single, she sports a traditional Mexican dress crafted by designer Diego Medel of Artesanías Lalo.
