Los Angeles, California (August 5, 2025)- Global pop sensation Chappell Roan has officially released the long-awaited studio version of her new single, “The Subway,” now available via Amusement/Island Records. The track, a heartbreaking ballad that fans have been clamoring for since its debut live last summer, was co-written and produced by Daniel Nigro. It showcases Roan’s unique talent through lyrics that are at her most vulnerable, capturing the disorienting pain of a lost love.
Lyrically, the song tells a story of silent heartbreak and the pain that lingers through everyday reminders in a bustling city. The track culminates in an iconic, full-throated declaration: “I made a promise, if in four months this feeling ain’t gone, well f*ck this city, I’m moving to Saskatchewan!” This powerful emotional journey is matched by Roan’s most ambitious music video to date, a love letter to New York and a love story that got away. Directed by Amber Grace Johnson and filmed on 35mm film, the video features Roan’s signature red locks shedding, exposing her vulnerable self as she is literally dragged through Manhattan, plagued by ghosts of the past and visions of her future.
Alongside the new single, Roan has announced a series of pop-up shows for this fall, titled “VISIONS OF DAMSELS & OTHER DANGEROUS THINGS.” The tour includes a four-night takeover at Forest Hills Stadium in Forest Hills, New York, on September 20, 21, 23, and 24. Following that, she will perform a two-night residency in Kansas City, Missouri, at the Museum and Memorial Park on October 3 and 4, before concluding with two nights at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on October 10 and 11. In keeping with her mission to make her shows accessible, tickets are being sold to pre-registered Fair AXS users from August 5-7 to keep them out of the hands of resellers. Roan has also partnered with Cash App and Visa to offer a 15% discount for Cash App cardholders.
“I have always wanted my shows to be a party that everyone is invited to, and the only way to do that is to keep ticket prices affordable,” Roan shared. She also announced a charitable component, stating, “We are also giving $1 per ticket to organizations that provide resources and support for trans youth <3 It is so important to me that I give back to the trans community as they have given so much to me throughout my entire career.”
The new shows follow Roan’s record-breaking 2024 festival season, where she commanded some of the largest crowds at Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, and Bonnaroo. With her unique blend of theatricality, drag-inspired costumes, and queer-affirming anthems like her recent Billboard chart-topper “The Giver” and her viral hit “Pink Pony Club,” Chappell Roan continues to solidify her place as a groundbreaking performer.
