Los Angeles, California (May 7, 2025)- Disney Branded Television has officially announced Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the highly anticipated fifth installment of the beloved Descendants franchise. The film will see the return of music and film icons Brandy and Rita Ora, reprising their roles as Cinderella and the Queen of Hearts, respectively. Joining them once again are Paolo Montalban as King Charming and Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, with Paxson making history as the only actor to appear in all five Descendants films. Currently in production, Wicked Wonderland is set to premiere in 2026 on both Disney Channel and Disney+.
This latest chapter in the franchise will continue the story of Red (Kylie Cantrall), daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe (Malia Baker), daughter of Cinderella, following the time-traveling events of 2024’s Descendants: The Rise of Red. Set primarily in present-day Wonderland, the film explores the fallout from tampering with time and what “happily ever after” truly means.
The star-studded ensemble cast is now complete, with returning and new characters played by Liamani Segura, Brendon Tremblay, Alexandro Byrd, Kiara Romero, Joel Oulette, Zavien Garret, Ryan McEwen, Dayton Paradis, and Leonardo Nam.
The movie is directed by Kimmy Gatewood (Muppets Mayhem) and written by Tamara Chestna (Sneakerella), Dan Frey, and Ru Sommer. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return, with Gatewood also serving as co-producer. Choreography will be led by EmmyⓇ Award-winner Emilio Dosal (Wicked, Sneakerella), ensuring another round of vibrant musical and dance sequences that fans have come to love.
The announcement comes as the franchise celebrates its 10th anniversary. Since the original film premiered in 2015, Descendants has become a cultural phenomenon, dominating cable movie ratings, racking up billions of social media impressions, and spawning music hits, bestselling books, Halloween costumes, and an animated spin-off series. Most recently, Descendants: The Rise of Red topped Disney+ viewership charts among kids and tweens in 2024.
With its rich legacy and a fresh wave of characters, Descendants: Wicked Wonderland is poised to continue the franchise’s legacy of magical storytelling, catchy music, and empowering themes for a new generation.
