Los Angeles, California (April 19, 2025)- With a cast led by Barbie Ferreira, John Leguizamo, and French Stewart, the film directed by Tracie Laymon is a hopeful tribute to friendship, empathy, and second chances.
In a world dominated by screens, notifications, and digital connections, “Bob Trevino Likes It” dares to tell a deeply human story: that of two lonely souls who accidentally meet and end up changing each other’s lives forever. Inspired by real events, this film is a celebration of the power of friendship in times when everything seems fleeting.
The plot revolves around Lily Trevino, played by Barbie Ferreira, a young woman who has had to take on adult responsibilities much earlier than expected, caring for those who should have been caring for her. After the definitive disappearance of her biological father, Lily attempts to trace him online. In this attempt, she sends a friend request on Facebook to who she believes is her dad… but it isn’t. Instead, she connects with Bob Trevino, played by John Leguizamo, an ordinary man who works long hours in construction while dealing with his own emotional burdens and the unresolved pain of his wife, Jeanie.
From this mistaken message, an unlikely but transformative friendship is woven. Bob and Lily, two complete strangers, find the comfort, understanding, and affection they both longed for. The film, far from resorting to easy sentimentality, presents this relationship with sensitivity, humor, and heartfelt honesty.
With Lauren “Lolo” Spencer, Rachel Bay Jones, and French Stewart rounding out the cast, “Bob Trevino Likes It” becomes an ensemble story where each character brings humanity and truth. The direction and script by Tracie Laymon, who is also one of the producers alongside Sean Mullin, Edgar Rosa, and Felipe Dieppa, gives the film an authenticity that has resonated with festival audiences around the world, winning thirteen audience awards.
Beyond being a heartwarming story, this film also poses a timely reflection on social media: Is it possible that, amidst the digital noise, we can still find real connections? “Bob Trevino Likes It” answers with a resounding yes. Because sometimes, the most powerful bonds don’t come by blood, but by choice.
With a runtime of 102 minutes and a PG-13 rating, this is one of those films that leaves your heart a little bigger when you walk out of the theater. And, hopefully, it makes you look at your virtual “friends” with a little more hope.
