The nominations for the 26th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards have officially been unveiled, setting the stage for a ceremony that will celebrate a year of musical innovation and genre-bending artistry. The list is a testament to the industry’s vibrant evolution, with global superstars and rising talents alike earning well-deserved recognition for their work.
Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny stands as the undisputed frontrunner, dominating the list with a staggering 12 nominations. His album Debí Tirar Más Fotos is a top contender for Album Of The Year, and two of its tracks—”Baile Inolvidable” and “DTmF”—are vying for both Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year. But his influence extends far beyond the main categories; he’s also nominated for Best Urban/Urban Fusion Performance, Best Reggaeton Performance, and Best Urban Song, underscoring his complete command of the urban genre.
Behind the scenes, a different kind of titan is making his mark. Producer and songwriter Edgar Barrera ties for the second-most nominations with 10 nods. Barrera is the modern-day musical architect, with nominations for both Songwriter of the Year and Producer of the Year. His golden touch can be heard across genres, from his collaboration with Karol G on the smash hit “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” to his work with Shakira on “Soltera,” both of which are nominated in major categories.
This year’s nominations powerfully reflect the global ascendancy of música mexicana, with two of the genre’s most respected artists leading the charge. Carín León, a past Latin GRAMMY winner and recent GRAMMY winner, is nominated for Album Of The Year for his album Palabra De To’s (Seca). He also earned two nominations for Best Regional Song for his collaborations “Si Tú Me Vieras” with Maluma and “Tierra Trágame” with Kakalo. Another standout is Lupita Infante, a two-time GRAMMY nominee in her own right, whose powerful song “¿Seguimos o No?” is up for Best Regional Song. Her nod is a nod to a new generation of female artists carrying on the genre’s rich legacy.
In a welcome return, legendary group Los Tigres Del Norte are nominated for Best Norteño Album for La Loteria. The title track is also nominated for Best Regional Song, proving that after decades in the business, their sound remains as fresh and relevant as ever.
The banda genre also received significant attention. Julión Álvarez y su Norteño Banda and Banda Ms De Sergio Lizarraga are both nominated for Best Banda Album, for their albums 4218 and Edición Limitada respectively.
The top categories are packed with a fascinating mix of established icons and innovative upstarts. The Album Of The Year list is particularly diverse, featuring Rauw Alejandro’s Cosa Nuestra, Gloria Estefan’s Raices, Natalia Lafourcade’s Cancionera, and Alejandro Sanz’s ¿Y Ahora Qué?, among others. The Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year categories highlight the powerful storytelling and production that defined the eligibility period.
The Best New Artist category introduces the next wave of talent to watch. This year’s nominees—including Alleh, Annasofia, Yerai Cortés, Juliane Gamboa, Camila Guevara, Isadora, Alex Luna, Paloma Morphy, Sued Nunes, and Ruzzi—represent a wide range of styles and backgrounds, signaling a bright future for Latin music [cite: 193-202].
Diving deeper, the nominations offer a comprehensive look at the many subgenres that make up Latin music. [cite_start]In the Pop field, Alejandro Sanz’s album ¿Y Ahora Qué? is up for Best Contemporary Pop Album, while Natalia Lafourcade’s live recording, Natalia Lafourcade Live At Carnegie Hall, is nominated for Best Traditional Pop Album. The inaugural Best Latin Electronic Music Performance category showcases the genre’s rise, with nominees including Ela Minus and Imanbek & Taichu. The Urban field is stacked with heavyweights, as Tokischa and Jay Wheeler earn nominations alongside Bad Bunny.
Rock fans will celebrate as Fito Paez’s album Novela and Marilina Bertoldi’s album Luna En Obras (En Vivo) land nominations for Best Rock Album. In the Alternative world, artists like Judeline and Latin Mafia are recognized for their boundary-pushing work.
The Tropical field is a testament to the genre’s timeless appeal, with salsa legends like Rubén Blades and Gilberto Santa Rosa receiving nods. Mike Bahía’s album Calidosa is nominated for Best Contemporary Tropical Album, showcasing a more modern take on the genre.
The Singer-Songwriter category highlights the intimate and personal work of artists such as Joaquina and Vicente García. Ale Zéguer also stands out, with her album Relatos nominated for Best Singer-Songwriter Album and a nod for Songwriter of the Year.
Jazz aficionados will appreciate the nominations for Paquito D’Rivera and Chucho Valdés in the Best Latin Jazz/Jazz Album category. The Christian and Portuguese fields also present diverse talent, with nods for Marcos Witt and Liniker, respectively. From the enchanting music of the Children’s album nominees to the dramatic compositions in the Classical and Visual Media categories, every corner of the industry is represented. The detailed artistry of the Recording Package nominees and the technical prowess of the Best Engineered Album contenders speak to the creative process behind the music.
The 26th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will air on November 13th, celebrating a year of groundbreaking work and the incredible artists who continue to push the culture forward.
