In a major move set to significantly boost the international profile of Australian music, Mushroom Music has announced a new sub-publishing partnership with peermusic, one of the world’s largest global independent music publishing companies. This deal is designed to take the rich, diverse catalogue of Mushroom Music—an operation launched just “last year” by the respected Mushroom Group—and connect it directly with the massive markets across the Americas.
Expanding Reach Across the Americas
Under the new agreement, peermusic will represent the entire Mushroom Music publishing catalogue across the United States, Canada, and Latin America (excluding Brazil). This is a game-changer for a roster that includes iconic Australian and New Zealand artists such as Kylie Minogue, Amy Shark, Archie Roach, Hunters & Collectors, and Yothu Yindi, along with contemporary acts like Middle Kids and Budjerah.
By leveraging peermusic’s robust infrastructure, the partnership will handle essential services for these artists, including copyright registration, royalty collection, and crucial sync and creative opportunities that place music in film, TV, and advertising. Mary Megan Peer, CEO of peermusic, expressed her team’s commitment, noting they are “thrilled to be representing the talented writers and artists of Mushroom Music in the Americas,” and plan to “increase opportunities and earnings for their music creators.”
United by Independent Spirit
The heart of this partnership lies in a shared commitment to independent artistry. Linda Bosidis, Co-CEO of Mushroom Music, highlighted this alignment, stating, “We both share a deep independent spirit and a passion for supporting songwriters with integrity, care and creativity.” She added that Mushroom Music is “fiercely committed to protecting and elevating our songwriters,” making a partnership with a family-owned company like peermusic an ideal fit.
For Australian and New Zealand songwriters, this collaboration signals a significant expansion of their global reach and potential earnings. The move builds upon Mushroom Music’s foundational goal of “investing in its artists and songwriters” to nurture and empower diverse talent. By uniting the local expertise of the Mushroom Group with the global scale of peermusic, the deal creates a powerful ecosystem designed to help Australian creativity blossom and careers to thrive on the world stage.
