Los Angeles, California (August 19, 2025)- In a new five-year agreement, CBS and Dick Clark Productions (DCP) have announced that the American Music Awards (AMAs) will be broadcast on CBS and streamed live on Paramount+. The new deal is set to begin with the May 2026 broadcast, which will air live from Las Vegas over Memorial Day weekend.
The agreement effectively swaps networks with the Grammy Awards, which are scheduled to conclude their run on CBS with the February 2026 show before moving to Disney outlets in 2027. The AMAs, which originated as a fan-focused alternative to the Grammys, aired on ABC from 1974 to 2022, making this a significant network change for the show.
The 2025 AMAs, which also aired on Memorial Day, drew its largest audience since 2019. The CBS premiere and subsequent encores reached more than 10 million unique viewers, marking a 38% increase over its last live broadcast in 2022. The 2025 show paid special tribute to U.S. troops and veterans and was hosted by Jennifer Lopez, who returned to the role for the first time in a decade.
The year’s top winner was Billie Eilish, and performers included a star-studded lineup with Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani, Lainey Wilson, and Reneé Rapp. The show also honored Janet Jackson with the ICON Award and Rod Stewart with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The American Music Awards distinguishes itself as the world’s largest fan-voted awards show. Winners are determined entirely by fan voting, while nominees are selected based on fan engagement data, including streaming, sales, and radio airplay. The new agreement will keep the AMAs on CBS through 2030.
