Los Angeles, California (May 28, 2025)- Country music powerhouse Lainey Wilson continues her unstoppable rise with the release of her new single, “Somewhere Over Laredo,” which debuted as the most added song at country radio this week with 129 adds. Garnering over 1.16 million streams within the first 24 hours, the track marks Wilson’s biggest streaming debut to date.
“Somewhere Over Laredo” is the lead single from the deluxe edition of Wilson’s critically acclaimed and award-winning album Whirlwind, set to release on August 22 via BBR Music Group/BMG Nashville in celebration of the album’s one-year anniversary. The expanded version will include five brand-new tracks:
“Somewhere Over Laredo”
“Bell Bottoms Up”
“King Ranch, King George, King James”
“Yesterday, All Day, Every Day”
“Peace, Love and Cowboys”
Written by Wilson, Trannie Anderson, Dallas Wilson, and Andy Albert, “Somewhere Over Laredo” pays subtle homage to the classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” while firmly rooted in Wilson’s signature country style. The song reflects on past love and the soul of small-town America, blending poignant storytelling with a dynamic vocal performance. Billboard praised it as “one of her most commanding, dynamic vocal performances to date,” noting the emotional build from soft intimacy to soaring strength.
Wilson gave a live debut of the single at the 2025 American Music Awards and spoke about the track on CBS Mornings, reinforcing its emotional depth and connection to her journey as an artist.
The release is another crowning moment in what has already been a landmark year for the Louisiana native. At the 60th Annual ACM Awards, Wilson took home four trophies, including her second consecutive Entertainer of the Year title, along with Female Artist of the Year, Album of the Year (Whirlwind), and Artist-Songwriter of the Year. She also premiered a new anthem, “Trailblazer,” in collaboration with country legends Reba McEntire and Miranda Lambert.
Currently in the middle of her nearly sold-out Whirlwind World Tour, Wilson is playing iconic venues across the U.S. including Madison Square Garden, Bridgestone Arena, Ball Arena, and the Kia Forum. Earlier this year, she wrapped a completely sold-out European leg of the tour.
Produced by Grammy winner Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Miranda Lambert), Whirlwind has been hailed as a milestone in Wilson’s career. The Tennessean called it “the best release of her career,” Rolling Stone described it as “a blend of brawn, heart, and a willingness to upend the status quo,” and NPR Music declared that Wilson is “cementing her status as a major headlining country star.”
In just the past year, Wilson was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, performed the halftime show at the Dallas Cowboys’ Thanksgiving game, won Best Country Album at the 2024 Grammys, and co-hosted the CMA Awards with Peyton Manning and Luke Bryan. She also received the ACM Triple Crown Award and the Milestone Award for her extraordinary contributions to country music.
A prolific hitmaker, Wilson has scored eight No. 1 singles, including the 2× Platinum “Heart Like A Truck,” and collaborated with stars like Post Malone, Jelly Roll, HARDY, and Cole Swindell. Beyond music, she is expanding into film with her feature debut in the upcoming adaptation of Reminders of Him and contributed the original song “Out of Oklahoma” to the Twisters movie soundtrack.
As Wilson continues to break barriers and redefine the country genre with authenticity and grit, Whirlwind (Deluxe) promises to be another career-defining moment.
