Seeker Music has added another influential catalog to its growing portfolio, acquiring the publishing rights belonging to Simon Raymonde, the songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and longtime member of shoegaze pioneers Cocteau Twins.
While financial details were not disclosed, the agreement includes Raymonde’s songwriting contributions across the group’s celebrated body of work, including material from landmark releases such as “Treasure,” “Blue Bell Knoll” and “Heaven or Las Vegas,” an album widely regarded as one of alternative music’s defining records of the 1990s.
Raymonde joined Cocteau Twins in 1983, helping shape the group’s signature ethereal sound alongside vocalist Elizabeth Fraser and guitarist Robin Guthrie. Decades after the band’s final studio release, their influence continues to expand across generations of listeners. Today, the catalog remains highly active in streaming ecosystems, with songs from “Heaven or Las Vegas” continuing to attract millions of plays and new audiences.
One of the catalog’s most important releases remains “Cherry-Coloured Funk,” a track co-written by Raymonde that has found renewed cultural relevance through streaming and sampling, including its influence on later works by contemporary artists.
The acquisition aligns with its strategy of pairing culturally significant catalogs with active creative and marketing development. Chief Creative Officer Steven Melrose described the catalog as deeply personal, pointing to the lasting emotional and artistic impact of Raymonde’s songwriting and musicianship.
Outside of his work with Cocteau Twins, Raymonde has remained deeply involved in shaping independent music culture. He co-founded Bella Union, the UK label that has become home to acclaimed acts including Beach House and Father John Misty, extending his influence well beyond his work as a performer and songwriter.
The deal continues an aggressive expansion period for Seeker Music, which says its catalog now spans more than 19,000 copyrights valued at over $400 million. Recent acquisitions have included rights connected to Jay Sean, The Wombats and other notable UK creators as the company increases its international footprint.
