Los Angeles, California (April 25, 2025)- In a night celebrating the talent and influence of women in the Latin music industry, Selena Gomez was honored with the prestigious Woman of the Year award at the third annual Billboard Latin Women in Music event on April 24, 2025. Although she couldn’t attend in person due to filming commitments in New York, she shared a heartfelt thank-you message through a video.
“This recognition means so much to me as a Latina,” said Gomez. “I’ve worked most of my life, and to feel seen, supported, and celebrated by women who share our roots is truly powerful.”
The Texas-born singer, actress, and producer reflected on her Mexican heritage and the lack of representation she faced growing up. “I didn’t see many women who looked like me at the center of the story or on stage. Our stories, our voices, and our cultures deserve to be celebrated,” she said.
Gomez also highlighted the release of her Spanish EP Revelación as one of the most meaningful moments of her career. “I felt like I was creating music for my heritage, my family, and for myself. I knew it would make my grandmother so proud,” she added with a smile.
The Woman of the Year award recognizes an artist who has shown exceptional success, leadership, and cultural impact both in and outside of music. Selena joins a distinguished list of past honorees, including Shakira and Karol G.
The ceremony, hosted by Ana Bárbara, who received the same honor in 2024, was broadcast live on Telemundo, Universo, Peacock, and the Telemundo app, reaching Latin America and the Caribbean through Telemundo Internacional.
Other honorees included Celia Cruz (Legend Award), Olga Tañón (Lifetime Achievement Award), Belinda (Evolution Award), Natti Natasha (Unstoppable Artist Award), Anitta (Vanguard Award), Chiquis (Impact Award), and Ha*Ash (Unbreakable Award).
Selena concluded her message with a special thank-you to her fans: “I can never say it enough: it’s because of you that I can do what I love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I love you all, I love you.”
