Live Nation ANZ has officially expanded its “Next On” program, bridging the gap between emerging musical talent and the creative professionals who document them. By partnering with acclaimed music photographer Michelle Grace Hunder, the initiative introduces a structured photography component designed to provide paid, hands-on experience for developing photographers in iconic venues.
The program’s expansion follows a successful launch on March 10, 2026, at Melbourne’s Palais Theatre. The debut event featured a sold-out showcase by Peach Fuzz, an act described by reviewer Caitlin Dyson as owning the stage for a “night to remember.” Capturing that energy was Alicia Adorna, the first photographer selected for the program, who noted that shooting in such an iconic space was a “dream come true” for her career development.
Empowering the Next Generation
At its core, Next On is designed to remove the traditional barriers that hinder emerging artists. Participating musicians gain access to Live Nation venues with zero hire fees, allowing them to retain 100 percent of all ticket and merchandise revenue. To ensure these artists have the professional tools needed for modern success, Live Nation also provides marketing assets, promotional support, and now, professional live photography from each showcase.
Michelle Lucia, Senior Vice President of Product & Innovation at Live Nation APAC, emphasizes that this move reflects the “social-first storytelling” that defines the modern live music experience. By capturing high-quality imagery, the program helps document the culture surrounding the next wave of headliners.
Career Pathways and Future Showcases
Curated by Hunder, the photography initiative aims to identify new talent and provide them with the portfolio-building opportunities necessary to break into the industry. “There are so many talented photographers out there who just need the opportunity to get in the room,” says Hunder.
The momentum continues throughout the spring with several upcoming showcases:
- Robbie Mortimer: Anita’s Theatre, Thirroul (March 27)
- MOHI: The Tuning Fork, Auckland (April 10)
- Them & I: The Outpost (May 7)
Applications are currently open for developing photographers looking to join the program. Interested creatives can register their interest via the official Live Nation Next On websites for Australia and New Zealand.
