AI audio company ElevenLabs is taking a step deeper into the music economy with the launch of its new Music Marketplace, a platform designed to enable creators to earn from tracks generated with its AI tools. The project builds on the company’s rapid expansion from voice synthesis into full-scale music production.
The concept is straightforward but potentially revolutionary: users can upload AI-generated songs created with ElevenLabs’ music model and make them available for others to download, remix, or license. Each time a paying subscriber uses one of those tracks, whether for content creation, advertising, or game development, the original creator receives compensation.
The initiative extends a model that ElevenLabs has already tested with its voice technology, in which users license AI-generated vocal replicas and earn revenue per use. That system has reportedly generated more than $11 million in payouts so far, and the company is betting that music could unlock even greater returns.
Since launching its music generation tool last year, ElevenLabs claims users have created millions of tracks, pointing to a surge in demand for accessible, AI-driven production. Unlike some competitors, the company emphasizes that its system has been developed using licensed material, aiming to provide creators with content that is cleared for commercial use from the outset.
The platform has also secured agreements with key industry players, including Merlin and Kobalt Music Group, signaling an effort to align with established rights frameworks as AI-generated music becomes more mainstream.
By lowering barriers to entry while embedding monetization directly into the creation process, the platform reflects a broader shift toward decentralized, creator-driven music economies.
Backed by major investors such as Sequoia Capital and NVIDIA, ElevenLabs is positioning itself at the forefront of a rapidly evolving intersection of AI and music.
