A new round of the LEG UP program is now open for 2026, offering small and mid-sized music businesses across Victoria tools to strengthen their financial knowledge and operations. Run by the Victoria Music Development Office (VMDO), the initiative focuses on helping independent companies improve financial management through grants, professional consultations, and discounted accounting software.
At the center of the program is a grant stream that will distribute 20 micro-grants worth up to $1,000 each. The funding is intended for practical investments that can help businesses manage their finances more effectively. Eligible expenses include accounting software, hardware upgrades, professional advice, or other tools designed to improve financial oversight and business administration.
In addition to funding, the program includes a consultation stream offering participants the chance to meet with experienced entertainment industry advisors. These one-hour sessions act as a financial check-in, giving businesses an opportunity to discuss issues such as tax planning, royalty accounting, or company structure with specialists.
A third component of the initiative offers access to accounting software at a steep discount. Through a collaboration with Xero, eligible users can receive 90 percent off a six-month subscription if they are new customers.
Music businesses based in Victoria can apply for either the grant program, the consultation sessions, or both, though participants will ultimately receive support from only one stream. Because the number of grants and consultations is limited, VMDO will review submissions internally and make final selections.
The program places particular emphasis on supporting businesses that can demonstrate how the assistance would directly contribute to future growth. VMDO also aims to promote equitable access.
Applications for the 2026 round of LEG UP close on March 16 at 5 p.m.
