Spotify is no longer just an audio platform—it is officially a video powerhouse. In a move that signals a massive shift in the creator economy, the streaming giant has unveiled Spotify Sycamore Studios, a cutting-edge production hub located in the heart of West Hollywood. This new facility is designed specifically to fuel Spotify’s aggressive push into video podcasting, a medium where consumption has reportedly outpaced audio by a staggering 20-to-1 margin since 2024.
A New Home for “The Ringer” and Beyond
Designed by the award-winning collective RIOS, Sycamore Studios features a “video-first” architecture. The space includes specialized recording rooms, multi-camera configurations, and full-scale production support. While it will serve as the primary home base for high-profile Ringer podcasts like The Rewatchables and The RingerVerse, access is strictly invite-only. Currently, only top-tier creators within the Spotify Partner Program can apply for space, based on their production needs and availability.
“Ambitious shows need spaces that support big ideas,” said Bill Simmons, founder of The Ringer and Spotify’s Head of Talk Strategy. “Having this additional home base in L.A. is vital for the next chapter of our storytelling.”
The Netflix Connection: Podcasting Goes Mainstream
The timing of the unveiling is no coincidence. It arrives just as Spotify and Netflix prepare to launch a historic content partnership in early 2026. Under this deal, full-length video versions of flagship Spotify titles—including The Bill Simmons Podcast and Conspiracy Theories—will be integrated directly into the Netflix interface for U.S. subscribers. This cross-platform alliance effectively ends the era of podcasts being “audio-only” and places them in direct competition with scripted television.
Lowering the Barrier to Entry
To support this physical expansion, Spotify also recently slashed the eligibility requirements for its Partner Program. Creators now only need 2,000 consumption hours and 1,000 engaged listeners to start earning video revenue. By combining a world-class physical studio in Hollywood with easier monetization and a Netflix distribution deal, Spotify is building an ecosystem designed to dismantle YouTube’s long-standing dominance over video creators.
